Essie Neo Whimsical

I received an Essie nail polish in a GlossyBox, which you can see here. I'm really new to the Essie brand, so I was excited to be able to test this polish out! The colour I got was Neo Whimsical, a soft, blue-toned baby pink. I was really worried that this shade wouldn't be opaque, but to my surprise and excitement, it was!

Essie's Neo Whimsical is a universally flattering shade, which makes it the perfect pick to send in a beauty box!  This polish was opaque for me with three coats, but I think that I could have gotten away with just two. The polish applied smoothly, without any brush stroke marks or bald spots. One thing that I didn't like was the brush. It is so skinny! I am so used to the pro-wide OPI brushes, I guess I was expecting something similar from Essie. Since the brush was so small, application took a bit longer.

Overall, I like this polish, but I don't love it. I actually really like the bottle shape for this brand! I think it's really classy but cute :) I really wish the brush was bigger, and that is actually a major deal breaker for me. If Essie comes out with some amazing, ground breaking colours, then I will revisit them, but for now I'm happy with my OPI's :)

Do you like Essie? What shades do you recommend?

  1. I like Essie, agree though that the brushes can be a pain however they are good for nail art ;) I really love their reds, as well as Mint Candy Apple & Aruba Blue.

  3. I like Essie polish :) It is good quality and they have some lovely colours. I buy Essie, Orly, OPI, China glaze (although not a favorite of mine!!), I am not overly picky with my brands but I prefer a high quality polish of course!

  5. Great place to start. Essie was known for their pinks, whites and soft neutrals for a long, long time. My fav new Essie is Play Date - med bright and yet still deep too lavender/purple that does not have a dupe at all in my 1500+ bottle stash. It's in the drugstore line available - but so far did not go into the classic line - thus look on line for it. Many good sellers on ick bay are very reputable with Essie, China Glaze & Nubar. I rarely pay $8 retail for Essie - as it's on ick bay with a # of sellers I work with that are reputable. I like Navigate Her a lot right now too.
