MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Finish

I've been testing out MAKE UP FOR EVER's Pro Finish* for a few months now, and it's about time I shared my thoughts on it with you!

From Sephora:

"Formulated with exclusive vegetal coated bio-mimetic pigments, this breakthrough formula lets you customize your foundation result. For a matte finish with full coverage, apply it dry. For a satin finish with sheer coverage, apply it wet. Pro Finish’s lightweight texture blends seamlessly with your natural skintone for a long-wearing, flawless complexion. Enriched with nourishing ingredients, it hydrates and soothes the skin for ultimate comfort. This versatile compact is perfect for on-the-go application as well as touch-ups throughout the day."

I have shade #117 Golden Ivory, and I think that it's a pretty good match for my skin tone. MAKE UP FOR EVER markets this powder as a powder foundation, and I really wanted to love it for that purpose, but for my needs it fell a bit short. I personally don't think that this powder gives that much coverage (although amost every review I've read claims otherwise!). So, instead of using this as a foundation, I've been using it as a setting powder. For that purpose, I absolutely love this product! Pro Finish leaves my skin looking matte and even.

I apply Pro Finish with a Sigma F30 Large Powder Brush over my liquid foundation, and I can instantly see my skin looking more even toned and smooth. If you have oily skin, I think that this product would be great for you, as it creates a matte look on my skin. This powder stays all day on my skin, especially when I use MAKE UP FOR EVER's Mist & Fix over top.

Pro Finish can be used wet (for a sheer look), or dry (for a more opaque look). Again, for me this didn't work out as a foundation, but I love it as a pressed powder. The compact contains 10g of product for $42 CAD, so it is a bit of a pricier item. The range consists of 25 shades, so you'll be sure to find one to match your skin tone. I love that the compact contains a mirror, making on the go application so easy, and the sponge included is actually pretty decent!

Have you tried MAKE UP FOR EVER's Pro Finish? Do you have any tips on getting a more full coverage finish out of this compact?

  2. I received a sample size of this. I really love the finishing but as you said, it is only light to medium coverage for me. I guess if you want full coverage, can try to wet the sponge and apply it. I have oily skin and I find this oxidize quite a bit on me after a couple of hours.

    1. Apparently when used wet this gives a sheer finish! I haven't tried it myself, as I didn't want an even sheerer look.

  3. Thanks so much for reviewing this! I really want to try this, and I sampled it at my sister's last night. I applied it dry with the little sponge and didn't think it did much as a foundation. But I'd love to try it wet or as a pressed powder. I'm pretty oily, so I think this would be perfect :)

  4. Great review! I am thinking about buying this as a "setting powder" but I want a routine that will keep my skin mostly oil free throughout the day. I don't want to have to touch up because I hate doing that!

I really like this as a setting powder :) And if you buy from Sephora, you can always return it if you aren't loving it!
