OPI DS Lapis

OPI is releasing 2 new DS shades this September, and they're adding a new spin on the DS line by introducing OPI's DS Raw Granite. Today I have OPI's DS Lapis* ($14.95 CAD) to share with you!

"This fall, OPI adds DS Raw Granite; two new granite-inspired hues – DS Pewter and DS Lapis – to the Designer Series by OPI collection. Featuring a matte textured finish with mineral-like reflections, each Designer Series Raw Granite lacquer formula offers subtle sheen with a sparkle finish."

I really love OPI's DS line, but DS Lapis is a bit different from what I'm used to. DS Lapis dries to a matte finish, which is very similar to OPI's Liquid Sand polishes. Even though this polish dries to a matte finish, it still has a surprising amount of shine! OPI recommends skipping the top coat to keep your nails looking matte. This polish dries to a textured finish, just like the Liquid Sand polishes. DS Lapis does offer a much higher shine and sparkle compared to most of OPI's Liquid Sand polishes. I found the brush for this polish to be a bit larger than what I'm used to from OPI. The formula of DS Lapis is fairly thick, and I only needed two coats for an opaque finish. I think that this beautiful royal blue shade will be perfect Fall and Winter!

I have to admit that I'm slightly on the fence about this polish. I really do think that it's beautiful, but I'm not sure that it's worth the higher price tag that comes with the DS line. What I loved about the DS line was the incredible high shine finish, so I don't love that this dries to a matte finish. However, I'm sure that I could throw on a top coat for an added dose of shine.

Will you be picking up one of OPI's new DS polishes in September? :)

  1. Thanks for the write up on this...I thought these 2 were going to be like the liquid sands...I am not a fan of the textured polishes. I sort of like now the ones with some shimmer in them but I don't like grit...I cannot stand to use sandpaper or emery boards so the feel of the liquid sands and like polish drive me up the wall. I did like a few of the Zoya Pixi colors and a few of the OPI Bond girl colors but the ones I bought I wanted off fast.

I was afraid OPI would cash in on the texture thing and push out some DS line items in this...they did the same thing with glitters when glitters got huge and for the most part - folks did not respond well to the DS glitters so the last 2 prior to these 2 current ones they revered back but not back far enough to what the DS line was to being with which was more of scattered holos.

I might try the Lapis but use a gel top coat to try and flatten it down and get a good slick top that is really shinny over it...but I don't think I would like the charcoal one enough to even try it.

    1. Thanks for the comment! :)
I wish OPI would go back to making the DS line holos and really unique & special polishes! Most of the DS polishes now are not that much different from their regular line (Raw Granite versus Liquid Sand). It would be interesting to see how this would look with a gel top coat!

  2. i'm just not sure about this, I like textures OK, I am mostly interested in the fall pixie dusts from zoya, but this doesn't seem worth the extra price tag and I don't really think this is any better than the liquid sands honestly from the photos although it is nice.

    1. I agree, this is a very pretty polish, and I would have no complaints if it was in the regular OPI line. I just don't know that it's worth the DS price!

Thank you so much for your lovely comments, I love each and every one! I reply to all comments, but if you need a quicker response tweet me @BeyondBlush11 or email me (
