MAC Rebel

I used to be pretty timid when it came to lip colours, but this year I've really been branching out of my comfort zone. One of these "out there" shades that I've been trying out has been MAC's Rebel ($14.50 USD/$18 CAD), which they describe as a "midtonal cream plum". This shade is one of MAC's most talked about and hyped up colours, so let's see if I think it deserves the hype!

I'm fairly pale, and I was worried that this shade would look a bit too bold or vampy on my lips. In the bullet, MAC's Rebel looks very deep and vampy, but once it's swatched it really isn't that bold. This purple shade has red undertones, and I think that this is one of those shades that looks different on everyone. You can either apply this straight from the bullet for an almost opaque look, or dab a bit on with your fingers for a lighter application. I find that this Satin formula feels really nice on my lips, but it isn't super hydrating. After about an hour or two I do have to apply a clear balm over top of Rebel. However, the actual lipstick shade itself does last on my lips for about 5 hours before starting to fade.

I really enjoy wearing MAC's Rebel on nights out, as it does make a statement. I know that I'll be reaching for this shade a ton this season, and soon I'll write up a post sharing my top lipstick picks for Fall/Winter 2013! What do you think about MAC's Rebel? Are you a fan of wearing bright or vampy shades, or do you tend to stick to something a bit "safer"? What has been your go-to lipstick so far this Fall? :)

  4. That is a beautiful shade and it doesn't look dark and vampy like I thought it would. I could use this lipstick in my stash. I need to break out of my nude/copper rut. This is definitely not something I already own.

    1. Thank you! Yes, it looks very deep and vampy in the bullet, but it applies beautifully :)
