Benefit Rockateur

I picked up Benefit's new boxed blush called Rockateur ($36 CAD/$28 USD - 5g) a few weeks ago from Murale. This new blush has received so much hype, that I just had to try it out for myself! I've been a long time fan of Benefit's boxed powders, with Hoola, Hervana, and Bella Bamba being my favourites. Rockateur is a rosey gold shade that I think is quite flattering!

Benefit Rockateur

"Pick up the beat with a rush of heat! This rockin’ rose gold cheek powder gives a famously provocative flush that turns heads on-stage and off. The crowd will go wild for its sexy faceted design, accented in luxe gold. For an encore, the custom angled, dimensional brush gives rich, show-stopping payoff every time." - Benefit

Benefit's Rockateur comes with a silvery overspray that comes off completely in the first application. After that, you are left with a soft rose shade with a golden sheen. There has been some controversy over the amount included in Rockateur - you receive 5 grams of product, whereas the other boxed powders contain 8 grams of product, for the same price. This is how Benefit reacted to the controversy -

"Note: Rockateur has a specialized formula that works by combining the best features of baked, powder, cream and fluid textures to give a brighter, purer color pay off creating 1.6 times the amount of pure color payoff. This results in the usage rate of Rockatuer to be an exact match to our other Box o’ Powders." - Benefit

The formula of this blush is quite good, but I do find that I have to use quite a bit of Rockateur to be able to build up the colour. I find that this shade is very light, and I need to build it up so that it is visible on my cheeks. However, I haven't finished off a full sized blush in years, so I'm not too bothered by this smaller size. I would have of course preferred a lower rice point though!

Benefit Rockateur

Benefit's Rockateur does come with a small brush, which I honestly didn't even try. I like to apply this with a Sigma F40 angled blush brush. I swirl my brush in the box, and apply to my cheeks. I do find that I sometimes have to go back for more product, as this shade is very light. The golden sheen in this blush is absolutely beautiful, and you could definitely skip the highlighter if you wanted to. I find that Rockateur wears on my cheeks for about 7 hours before it starts to fade.

 Overall, I think that Benefit's new Rockateur is a beautiful shade that would work on fairer skin tones. This might just work as a highlighter on darker skin tones. I do often layer Rockateur over the Warm Gold shade from AERIN's Multi Color Duo for Lips & Cheeks (reviewed here). Using Rockateur over top of a cream blush helps to deepen the colour and increase the staying power. Rockateur is a great blush that works well with almost any eye or lip look, and I have worn it quite a bit since I purchased it.

Have you picked up Benefit's Rockateur yet? What are your thoughts on this new rose gold blush? :)

  7. Loooove this one, but I passed on it haha. Like you said, it comes off more like a highlighter on me and at the moment, I'm loving the Becca Rose Gold SSP for that. I'll probably pick this up in the future though. Can't resist lol. Looks great on you! Very glowy :) x

  8. Totally agreed! This is a lovely blush. The shade is quite unique and really flattering on many skin types. I'm also not bothered by the smaller size, won't use it up anyway.

  9. Ugh, stunning on you!! ;-;
    I really want to try this shade out, but it's so pricey! And a little unfair of Benefit to price it the same as the 8gram powders EXCUSE ME I AM BEING SCAMMED OF 3 GRAMS HERE
    But if they did release that blush shade in one of their sets, I would probably shamelessly pick it up, haha

    1. Thank you! At first the size difference bothered me, but then I remembered that I never actually finish blushes! Still annoying, but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. :)
