Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm

Winter always wreaks havoc on my lips, and I'm trying to keep my lips hydrated and smooth this year. I've been trying out Burt's Bees' Beeswax Lip Balm* ($4.89/4.25g) for a few weeks to help my lips stay in tip top shape. This formula contains Vitamin E, peppermint, and of course bees wax.

"Give your lips the soothing feeling they deserve. This natural lip balm is loaded with coconut and sunflower oils, rich in vitamins and essential fatty acids, to nourish, condition and soften lips. Beeswax seals in hydration. We've even added peppermint oil for a refreshing tingle. No wonder it is our most popular product." - Burt's Bees

This lip balm from Burt's Bees comes in a twist up tube, making it easy to apply and bring on the go. As you might expect, this formula does feel fairly thick and waxy on your lips. The scent is quite minty, and it does give a slight tingle to your lips. This formula is hydrating, but I do find the heavy way feeling a bit much. This lip balm stays on my lips for about 2-3 hours, which is good but not amazing. I feel like this formula just sits on top of my lips without penetrating deeper. So the outer layers on my lips are hydrated, but once the lip balm wears off my lips are still left feeling dry. This would be a good lip balm to layer over top of lip sticks as it doesn't add much of a glossy look.

Overall, I love that this is a 100% natural product, but I don't think that the formula is amazing. I need a lip balm that is very hydrating and comfortable to wear. When I use this lip balm at night, my lips are already dry halfway through the night. I know that this lip balm has a cult following, but it's just not holy grail status for me! Have you tried Burt's Bees' Beeswax Lip Balm before? Do you love it, or are there other formulas that you prefer?

  1. I would say the Burt's Bees is about average for me--I like the rejuvenating Acai Berry--but I reeeeally like Blistex Silk & Shine. It's my #1 right now. Although Chapstick's new Hydration Lock is pretty good too...just not as good as Blistex.

  4. I do quite like Burt's Bees lip balms, but they're not a perfect 10 for me either, they're a little bit too hard in the stick and it give more of a waxy than a moisturised feeling. Xx
