NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Sex Machine

Today I have one of NARS' Velvet Matte Lip Pencils to share with you that was included in the Guy Bourdin Promiscuous Lip Coffret! Sex Machine is a beautiful pinky mauve with a nice pearly finish. This was my first time trying out any of the NARS pencils, so read on to see what I think about them!

"Combining the convenience of a pencil with the application of a lipstick in a jumbo-sized crayon design, these pigment-rich sticks provide a matte, creamy finish that will not dry the lips. Enriched with emollients, vitamin E, and silicone, each gorgeous shade glides on and stays put." - Sephora

This Velvet Matte Lip Pencil from NARS is a beautiful pearly pink that packs a nice amount of pigment. The pencil packaging makes this product really easy to apply, and you can do it without a mirror. The major downside to this packaging is that you do need to sharpen the pencils. This means that you'll loose a lot of product every time you sharpen, and at $30 per pencil, that's really annoying! I hope that NARS will decide to redesign their lip pencil line so that they twist up (like Bite's pencils).

Sex Machine feels really nice on my lips, but the matte part of this formula does mean that it can feel drying. I find that this pencil only hydrates my lips for about 30 minutes, and then I need to apply either a balm or a gloss. The colour itself is fairly long wearing, and starts to fade around the 4-5 hour mark. I'm happy to say that I don't find that these settle into any fine lines or accentuate any dry patches on my lips! Sex Machine is a very wearable shade, and it pairs beautifully with a smoky eye.

Have you tried any of NARS' Velvet Matte Lip Pencils? Compared to Revlon's Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains, I would say that NARS' formula is more drying, but the colour payoff is a lot nicer. Revlon's formula also has a very minty scent to it, while NARS' are fairly unscented. Are you a fan of lip pencils? Which formula is your favourite? :)

NARS' Velvet Matte Lip Pencils are ($30/0.086oz), but the one shown in my pictures is a travel size!

    1. I agree, I definitely feel the need to top up with a balm or gloss! I can't even imagine how drying the regular matte formula must be!
