OCC Lip Tar - Memento

During Sephora's Friends & Family sale, I picked up a 4 pack of mini OCC Lip Tars. Today I have the shade Memento to share with you, which is described as a "midtone pink plum" by Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. OCC's Lip Tars come packaged in little tubs and each comes with a lip brush to help with application.

There has been so much hype surrounding these Lip Tars in the beauty community. I do think that these are great lip products, but I wouldn't recommend them to anyone who is brand new to makeup or someone who wants a super easy lip product. You really do have to apply these Lip Tars with a lip brush, and it does take a full minute or two to properly apply. I did find the shade Memento fairly easy to apply, as it is a lighter shade. If you don't to bother with the fuss of a lip brush, then these Lip Tars just aren't for you.

OCC's Memento is a beautiful pink with slightly mauve undertones. I find this pink to be very wearable on my skin tone, and the colour is quite opaque. This formula has a slightly minty scent to it, but it won't make your lips tingle like some other minty glosses. You need the smallest amount of product to cover your entire lips, so even my mini tube should last me quite a while. I'm really glad that OCC came out with these mini sets, because it would take ages to go through a full size Lip Tar! Memento hydrates my lips for about 2 hours, and then I definitely need to apply a lip balm or reapply this shade to my lips. This shade is described as matte by OCC, but I would say that it has a healthy amount of shine to it.

Overall, I really do like the shade Memento. However, the whole application process means that I don't reach for my Lip Tars all too often. I find it a lot easier to simply reach for a traditional lipstick or lip gloss that I can apply on the go. Have you tried any of OCC Lip Tars? Do you mind having to use a lip brush to apply your lip products?

OCC's full sized Lip Tars are $22 CAD/0.33oz.

  2. I feel the same way about application. It would be more convenient if it came with a built in applicator. So I don't use them often either.
