Rimmel Clean Finish Foundation - 120 Ivory

I've been trying out a new foundation, which is quite exciting because I've been quite loyal to Estee Lauder's Double wear for months and months! I've been testing out Rimmel's Clean Finish Foundation in the shade 120 Ivory* (approx. $6 CAD/1 oz), which offers a lighter coverage compared to EL's Double Wear.

"An oil-controlling foundation that leaves skin 100% poreless, for a smooth, clean finish. Formula enriched with natural shine-controlling minerals for all day oil control that won’t clog pores." - Rimmel

I wear shade #120 Ivory, which is the lightest shade in Rimmel's Clean Finish Foundation range. I do have a fairly light skin tone, but I know that anyone with a porcelain skin tone won't be able to find a good match from this line. This foundation doesn't come with a pump, but it does has a flat spatula applicator. This formula is fairly thick, so I'm guessing that's why there isn't a pump. I use the spatula to stir up & mix the foundation, and then I apply it to my skin. I've blended in this foundation with my fingers and with a flat top kabuki brush, and both methods work well. I've heard a lot of people complain that this foundation oxidizes on their skin, but I'm happy to say that this hasn't happened to me!

Rimmel's Clean Finish Foundation offers light to medium coverage, and I typically apply two layers to get a medium coverage. This formula will cover any redness that you had, but it won't cover freckles or blemishes completely. I do still use a concealer on any trouble areas. My skin isn't particularly dry or oil, and this foundation from Rimmel gives a slightly matte finish but it isn't drying at all. I find that this formula stays on my skin for about 7 hours before it starts to fade. As promised, this foundation does create a poreless effect on my skin, everywhere except on my nose where my pores are especially problematic.

Overall, I really like this foundation! I like using it on days when I don't need a full coverage effect, and I love how light this formula feels on my skin. It's very easy to blend out, and the coverage can be built up slightly by using a second coat. Rimmel also has a Clean Finish Matte Foundation available, but I haven't tried that one out yet. Have you tried this foundation before? What foundations are you currently using?

  1. This was my summer foundation last year. I agree it doesn't have the best coverage and it's hard to find lighter shades in the line. I recently got EL and well, it's pure bliss! :)

    1. While this doesn't compare to EL, the prices of the two foundations are completely different! I think this one would be great in the summer since it does feel so light on my skin! :)

  2. I had bad issues with oxidizing and this foundation :( I am still sorta using it with a lighter powder on top sometimes, but I have a couple bottles in wrong shades I don't know what else to do with and have nobody to give them to which makes me sad, I think I'll just have to throw them out. I like the consistency and application of this foundation though, which is why I was disappointed I had such a hard time with the colour.

    1. I saw your review on it, that's really too bad that it oxidizes on your skin! You should see if your local woman's shelter could use your spare bottles? :)

    2. Oh hmm, I am always nervous about giving away beauty products (and I did swatch these two for my review, although I didn't use them other than that because they were the wrong shade.) I should start some kind of 'donate' pile and see what I can actually pass on. I'm glad you're getting lots of use out of this though! I just saw Rimmel had a Stay Matte foundation and I tried it in store and really liked it.

    3. I have a bag full of products that don't work for me or I just don't find myself reaching for - I let my friends & family raid it whenever they're over! :)
