Almay Shadow Softies in Petal & Smoke

If you read my blog regularly, you might be aware of my slight obsession with pink eye shadows. Well, I've been playing around with yet another pink shadow in a new formula from Almay. Pinks pair beautifully with greys, and that just what I've been doing on my eyes! Almay's new Shadow Softies in Petal* & Smoke* are shadows with a creamy, bouncy formula - unlike anything I've tried before!

Almay Shadow Softies have a very unique texture - It's somewhat like Maybelline's Dream Bouncy Blushes, and a bit like memory foam. When you touch the shadow, the product moves almost like sculpting clay. You can see this more clearly in my photo below. I like to use my fingers to apply these shadows, or a flat, dense brush. I prefer to use these shadows on my eyes over a primer such as Too Faced Shadow Insurance. I find that they don't work exceptionally well over top of a cream shadow. Almay does state that these are sheer shades, but I think that they can be build up in opacity. Petal is a beautiful light baby pink that works well as an all over the lid shade. Smoke is a matte grey with slightly purple undertones.

My favourite way to wear these Almay Shadow Softies is either on their own, or by layering powder shadows or pigments over top. These create a great base and help other shadows to really "pop". When used with a primer, these shadows wore for over 8 hours on my lids without creasing or fading.

If you're looking for intense colour, then these aren't for you. However, if you like more subtle looks for daily wear, I do really love this formula! Petal and Smoke pair beautifully together, and I'm also wanting to try out Cashmere, Honeydew, and Vintage Grape. Have you tried any of Almay's new Shadow Softies? What do you think about the bouncy texture? :)

    1. Thanks! I'm not sure that the name/packaging describes the product well enough, I thought they were powder shadows until I started playing with them! :)
