I'm a huge fan of black eyeliner, but I haven't tried out too many gel eyeliners. Well, I've been trying out Mary Kay's Gel Eyeliner in Jet Black* ($18/4.5 g), which has recently been added to their permanent collection! Read on to see how I liked this liner...
"The precision of a pencil meets the intensity of a liquid in one smooth gel eyeliner formula.
- Foolproof and easy-to-apply, this versatile eyeliner lets you create beautiful fine lines for a daytime look or intensify with ease for a more dramatic look.
- Lightweight formula glides on smoothly without tugging or pulling.
- Dries quickly, delivering an intense color payoff.
- Long-wearing and smudgeproof.
- Ophthalmologist and dermatologist-tested.
- Suitable for contact lens wearers and sensitive eyes." - Mary Kay
Mary Kay's Gel Eyeliner comes housed in a little glass tub with a black plastic lid. This also comes with a small retractable brush, but I prefer to use my regular, full size brushes. This formula is extremely creamy, which is both a good and bad thing. The positives: I don't think that this product will dry up any time soon, and it's easy to pick up product with a brush. The negatives: Since this formula is so creamy, it's hard to only pick up a small amount of product. I end up with a ton of product on my brush, which I then have to wipe off on the sides on the glass container.
It's easy to create a traditional line with this gel liner, but I do find it a bit difficult to create a good "flick". I think that this is because the formula is so thick and creamy, so it's hard to get a precise point or line. However, I do love how quickly this liner dries down, and it doesn't smudge or flake at all throughout the day. This formula wears for 9+ hours, yet it still removes easily at the end of the night.
I really love how long-wearing this liner is, but the formula is a bit too thick for my liking. As someone that's new to the world of gel liners, this formula wasn't fool proof. I personally prefer the ease of traditional pencil liners, or liquid liners. Are you a fan of gel liners? What are your favourite formulas? :)
It sounds pretty promising, I really don't want to try it just yet because I already have 4 gel liners in use right now :S
ReplyDeleteBut I should review it soon haha
Haha! well this is now in the permanent lineup, so no rush! :)
DeleteI prefer kohl liners, they're just so much easier to use!
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree!
Deletei haven't tried a gel liner... i definitely need one that's foolproof!
ReplyDeleteI've heard really great things about Maybelline's gel liner, and MAC's fluid lines, they're on my wishlist!
DeleteThe only gel liner I've ever tried is by Maybelline, it's so great! I prefer it over my liquid pen liners. This one sounds very good too :)
ReplyDeleteI've only heard rave reviews on Maybelline's formula, I need to try it out! :)
DeleteI'm new to liners in general so I've definitely not tried a gel liner yet.
ReplyDeleteOh really!? I remember liner being the very first makeup product I ever used (other than lip balm & nail polish). It was a brown liner and I tried to be subtle with it so my parents couldn't tell!
DeleteI've never tried a gel liner, but I want to. I like how black-black this looks.
ReplyDeleteYa, the colour is definitely a true black! :)
DeleteI used to exclusively use gel liner, then went to liquid for the longest time, and now I have a gel again...I forgot how smooth they are, generally speaking!
ReplyDeleteI don't know why I've never used gel liner before! I think I just like the ease of a pencil & not having to worry about washing a brush every day!
