Guest Post: Top Lip Colors for Summer

Top Lip Colors for Summer

Hi everyone, my name is Jordana and I'm the blogger behind Just J, a fashion/beauty and lifestyle blog based out of beautiful Vancouver. I'm so happy to be guest blogging today on Beyond Blush! I found Laura's blog through the Canadian Beauty Bloggers group and her blog has quickly become one of my must-reads. I hope you'll enjoy my post today on one of my favourite makeup topics: lipsticks!

While Laura's favourite makeup is blush, mine is lipsticks. I truly believe your lip color can totally change your look and is such a simple way to really make a statement. While winter for me was all about dark reds and plums, for summer I feel things need a little lightening up. This summer, I'm all about bright, girly pinks and spunky oranges. There's a pink or an orange lipstick out there for everyone. Here are a few my current favourites:

Revlon Lip Butter in Sweet Tart

This is one of my absolute favourites in my collection. This shade should really be called Hot Tart because it is just so gorgeous. I would recommend anyone to buy into the Lip Butter line as they are creamy, pigmented and just the right amount of glossy. The wear I get out of this color isn't too bad, maybe a few hours if I'm not eating or drinking, but it's definitely not a long-wearing shade.

Annabelle TwistUp in Sorbet

Awhile back, I did a series on all 24 shades of the TwistUp line and Sorbet was near the top of my faves. A pretty watermelon shade, Sorbet is the quintessential summer color. It's just pink enough to make a statement, but isn't unnatural looking. Since it's a pencil, it's not as creamy as the Lip Butter, but it also wears a lot longer. If you have moisturized lips, you may not even need balm under this one as it doesn't settle much into lines. Wear time is also fairly good at 4-5 hours and it fades away to a natural stain.

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in Plushest Punch

Bold lips and black liquid eyeliner is my signature look and Plushest Punch is my go-to lazy look. This lip crayon is super creamy and super pigmented. The picture is actually deceiving as I think it's a lot more magenta than is shown here. One slick on the lips and you're pretty much good to go. The only downside to this crayon? It can get onto your teeth!

L'oreal Colour Riche in Fiery Veil

Last, but not least, is this tomato-red lipstick from L'oreal. I don't use a lot of L'oreal products, but I LOVE this lipstick. It is creamy, glossy and very pigmented. Orange is a fantastic color if you have medium-tone yellowish skin like me. This shade doesn't feel too crazy for beginners, but is orange enough to satisfy my urges. As it's so glossy, the wear time is probably the lowest of the bunch, but it's so lovely I don't even mind.
