Wedding Wednesday - I'm Engaged!!

So a few days ago I shared my stories of visiting the Great Wall of China, but I kinda left out a big detail from that day... I got engaged!! My boyfriend (well now he's my fiancé!) and I have been together for almost 6 years, and we've talked about marriage a ton. So, while the idea of getting engaged wasn't a surprise, I was definitely surprised in the moment.

I had a suspicion that Dylan might propose while in China, but these thoughts quickly disappeared when we went through airport security. I thought that Dylan would be incredibly nervous going through security if he was carrying a ring, but he seemed so nonchalant. I remember texting my bff Jenny that I didn't think he had the ring, and that I'd just have to wait a bit longer. Yes, I was that kind of girl.

We visited the Great Wall on day 3 of our trip (maybe it was day 4, the time change was confusing). It was coming to the end of our time on the Wall, and we were heading back to meet up with our tour group. Dylan spotted these three French girls that were in our tour group, and gave my camera to one of them, and asked her to take a picture of us. So I was smiling, facing the camera, and out of the corner of my eye I see Dylan go down on one knee. I was shocked, and honestly, my mind sort of shut off at that point. I remember Dylan telling me that he loved me, but I can't remember anything else from his speech. He was holding out the ring, and I instantly said yes!! People in the background were clapping and congratulating us. Of course, I instantly burst into tears (thankfully I was wearing waterproof mascara). Post proposal we got to ride in the toboggans down the Great Wall, which made it that much more fun. I was in shock for a few hours post-proposal, and it's still seeming surreal even now. I am so, so happy that we have these pictures of our special moment.

We were waiting until we could share the news in person with Dylan's family, which we did this past weekend. I had made a photo album with all our pictures from our trip, and let his parents flip through the pages. When they got to the page with the proposal pictures, there was a moment of silence and then his aunt yelled out "are you engaged!?" His mom teared up (happy tears), and everyone started hugging. It was such a perfect moment, and I'm really glad we decided to wait until we could tell them in person.

So that's the story of my proposal! My ring is getting sized now, and I can pick it up later today. Now that I'm engaged, I would love to share my wedding related posts, in a series I'm calling Wedding Wednesdays. We're hoping the get married next August, so we have plenty of time to plan. I would love to hear the story of your proposal, or what your dream proposal is!

  3. I LOVE the way you guys told Dylan's family. That is the SWEETEST way to do it. I love the somewhat confused look on your face in the first photo and then all the tourists eagerly watching you guys in the next photos! What a great location and way to get engaged! I am looking forward to Wedding Wednesdays with you! Congratulations to you and Dylan (I always remember to include the guy too, because they always get left out of stuff like this!)!

  8. CONGRATULATIONS!! :') Such a sweet proposal!

My husband didn't do a surprise proposal; rather, we knew very shortly into our relationship we wanted to get married, so it was just him saving up for the ring. We actually picked it out together and he gave it to me at a restaurant one night. We also got married in August and it will be four years!

Congrats again! Do take some time to relax in-between wedding planning though as it can be stressful!
