Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick in Preview & Couture

Today I have two of Revlon's ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipsticks to share with you! I've been trying out the shades Preview* & Couture*, which both looked very promising in the bullets. These suede formula is meant to be long-wearing, hydrating, and velvety soft. Read on to see if I agreed with these claims!

"Is your lipstick giving you both moisture and wear? This velvety soft formula with moisturizing shea butter and aloe is food proof and doesn't quit. 20 shades. Apply once and go." - Revlon

Preview is a pretty mauve with a slight shimmer. I think that this shade is super pretty, and very easy to wear/pull off. Initially, these ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipsticks felt very creamy on my lips. However, after a few minutes, this formula started to feel very drying. The lipstick felt tacky, sticky, and tight on my lips. I guess this shouldn't have surprised me, given that this is a long-wear formula. If you're planning on wearing these suede lipsticks, I highly recommend applying a balm or clear gloss over top - I could only go 5 minutes before I had to do this! The color from Preview lasted 3 hours on my lips before starting to fade, not great for a long-wearing lip colour.

Couture is a sheer red shade that is slightly buildable with multiple layers. Both shades will accentuate dry lips, so do make sure to exfoliate before wearing these Suede lipsticks. Couture wore for about 4 hours before starting to fade - better than Preview, but still not worth the drying formula. Though the colours start off looking glossy, they turn into a more matte finish after about 15 minutes, and the colour fades a bit.

Overall, I would have to give Revlon's ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick in Preview & Couture a pass - I just can't get over the drying formula! For me (a lip balm addict), a hydrating lip colour is crucial. I also wish that both shades were a bit more pigmented, especially Couture. Have you tried any of the 20 shades in Revlon's ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick line?

  1. I'm shocked by how shiny these are given that they are named "suedes". I'm also surprised by the sheer formulation, and they look so moisturizing too! Whaaaa??

  2. Oh wow, I guess it's because it has the word "suede" in the name I thought these would be matte. I'm surprised they're so creamy! I need something with a bit more pigment and a hydrating formula so I may skip these though. Thanks for the review!

  4. I have tried both these and the matte balms, and I much prefer the texture of the matte balms, although I hope they expand the range of colours to incorporate more neutral, natural colours. Victoria Ess
