Travel Diaries: Beijing Day 6 - Badaling Great Wall & Summer Palace

I'm back with another Travel Diaries post! It's been a few weeks since my last Beijing post, but I really want to share my adventures with you! On day 6 of our trip, we took a guided tour of the Badaling section of the Great Wall & Summer Palace. We were actually the only ones who signed up for the tour, so it turned out to be an amazing private tour! Our tour guide was incredibly nice and knowledgeable, and she was willing to take a ton of pictures of us!

Our first stop was Summer Palace, which is what I was looking forward to most from our entire trip. If you're ever in Beijing, please please please visit Summer Palace! Summer Palace is actually on the World Heritage List, as well as being a recreational park. The park overlooks a beautiful body of water, with rolling hills and mountains in the background. Summer Palace is home to the longest covered wooden corridor in the world - 2388ft of wood covered in over 10,000 paintings of famous Chinese landscapes, episodes from folk tales, flowers and birds! It was truly incredible to witness this piece of history in person.

After a few hours at Summer Palace, we then drove to the Badaling section of the Great Wall. This section is closer to the heart of Beijing, which makes it much more of a tourist attraction, and therefore a lot busier than the Mutianyu section that we visited earlier. We took a fancy gondola up the wall, and then we were faced with an incredibly steep hill. Locals say that if you can successfully climb this steep hill, you're a hero. There are no stair, just a railing to hold on to for dear life. Dylan and I both made it up the hill, so I guess we're heroes!

The view from the Great Wall was simply breathtaking. It's not something that I can put into words, you really have to experience it for yourself! As I mentioned before, this section of the Great Wall was a lot busier, so do keep that in mind if you only have time to visit one section of the Great Wall.

Ah! I want to go back so badly!

After a few hours of exploring the Great Wall, we drove back to our hotel and then we went back to Sanlitun Village to shop! Check out this picture of a KFC delivery bike! KFC & McDonald's do at home delivery via mopeds, which I thought was super cool.

Dylan and I had an amazing, incredible, and very memorable day, and I wish that we could go back and experience this all over again! I'll try my best to round up my Beijing Travel Diaries series soon, I know it's taking me forever to write these posts. Oh well, I'm trying! But for now, I already have the travel bug, and I'm also thinking about where I want to go for our honeymoon. I'm thinking somewhere hot and tropical, any suggestions?
