Bobbi Brown Surf Eye Palette

Bobbi Brown has released two new shadow palettes in the Surf & Sand Collection for Late Summer 2014, and I've been trying out their Surf Eye Palette* ($65 USD/$78 CAD)! Each of the two palettes contains 8 shadows, and this was my first experience with shadows from the brand. Read on to hear my thoughts & to see swatches!

Bobbi Brown Surf Eye Palette

"Sure to be a summer essential, these two palettes feature eight subtle yet stunning eye shadows in a wide range of sheer tones and formulas for endless standout eye looks, both poolside and cocktail appropriate. The Surf Eye Palette is perfect for experimenting with pastel shades—from shimmering pink to sparkly soft blue to soft aqua. The Sand Eye Palette’s range of neutral eye shadows – from metallic bronze to sparkling gold – is ideal for layering. Both palettes are wrapped in a sand-like fabric, reminiscent of crisp linen tunics, a summertime favorite." - Bobbi Brown

Bobbi Brown Surf Eye Palette

Bobbi Brown's Surf Eye Palette comes packaged beautifully in a golden sand coloured linen case. The palette has a strong magnetic closure that shouldn't pop open during travels. There is a large mirror inside of the palette, so you'll be able to retouch-up your look on the go. 7 of the 8 shades are shimmers, and the top left shade is a matte.

These shades are all fairly sheer, which is how Bobbi Brown marketed the palette. If you're a fan of creamy, highly pigmented shadows, then this palette won't be for you. If you prefer a more subtle, sheer wash of colour, then you'll really love this palette! I love shimmery shadows, so I had a lot of fun playing around with these colours. I was a bit disappointed with the blue and green shadows, because it almost feels like there's a film covering the powder. They are both quite dry and hard to get any pigment from at all. I would have loved for these two shadows to have been a bit more pigmented, since I think that they are the main draw towards this palette. I was happy to find that these shadows all wore very well on my lids - only starting to fade at the 9 hour mark! If you use a primer or cream shadow base you'll be able to prolong the wear time by a few hours.

I think that Bobbi Brown's Surf Eye Palette will have a very specific niche market. If you like shimmey, sheer shadows, and you don't mind splurging a bit, then this is the palette for you. If you're a die hard Bobbi Brown fan, then this would be a nice item to add to your collection. For me, this palette is nice to have, but it isn't a must-have. I would love to try out the Sand Eye Palette from this collection to see how it compares!

Have you checked out Bobbi Brown's Surf & Sand Collection? Are you a fan of sheer shadows?

  1. I agree with you I'm not a fan of sheer shadows so this is a skip.

  2. I'm okay with a sheerer finish, but man, wish the green and blue had more color pay off :/

  6. Oh wow these look super sheer! Probably not for me then as I'd prefer to blend out pigmented shadows rather than dig into the palette trying to get a decent colour pay off.

  7. I played around with these in the store and found the green for sure was hardened or dry. Disappointed in the pigmentation too but I bet they would look great over a dark colour.

    1. Ya, it almost feels like there's a film over top of that shade! So unfortunate because the green and blue look so pretty in the pan!

  8. This palette really is gorgeous and ultra summery, but not sure if I'd get enough use out of it year-round. Thanks for the swatches! xo
