Kat Von D's Monarch Eyeshadow Palette comes packaged beautifully - a burnt orange magnetic case decorated with original artwork by Kat herself. The one and only issue I have with the packaging is that the shadow names are not printed inside the palette, only on the back of the case. Not a huge issue, but I do know that this matters to a lot of makeup junkies (myself included). There is a large mirror inside the palette, which you can use to apply the shadows or touch up throughout the day.
I must have forgotten how soft and creamy Kat Von D's eyeshadows are, because I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of these shadows! This formula is soft, creamy, and incredibly pigmented. For the swatches below, I only used one soft swipe of each shadow, and you can see how strong the pigmentation is!
Without primer, these shadows last about 7 hours before they start to fade, which I find pretty darn impressive! A primer or cream shadow base helps to prolong the wear time even further. These shadows also work very well as liners on the bottom lash line - I've been mixing Summerfly and Killing Jar for a coppery gold colour. This palette includes three matte shadows - Vanish (taupe), Shadow Box (chestnut), and Deadhead (black). All three mattes are creamy and easy to blend. Additionally, there are three "textural bases", which are the top row of shadows. I've been loving the middle shade, Telepathy, a pearly gold, as an all over the lid colour. There is an endless number of looks that you can create with this palette, and I can't wait to keep playing with it! This is a palette that I know is going to get a ton of use from me - it may just be my new obsession.
If you've been thinking about buying Kat Von D's Monarch Eyeshadow Palette, I highly recommend pulling the trigger. Kat Von D also released the Chrysalis Eyeshadow Palette, which is the more colourful, cool toned sister to the Monarch Palette, and I'm dying to try it out!
