Date Night: Advanced Screening of Let's Be Cops

Last Thursday Dylan's uncle let us know that he got tickets to an  advanced screening of Let's Be Cops through his work. He wasn't able to make the screening, so he generously passed the tickets on to us. The screening was at the Landmark Cinemas 24 Kanata, which proved to be a bit difficult to get to by bus. We were cutting it a bit late, but we made it just in time for the 7 pm screening - with a few minutes left to grab a root beer and a big bag of popcorn from the concession stand!

Advanced Screening of Let's Be Cops

Dylan and I were both excited to see this movie, partly because we're both huge fans of New Girl! Coach (Damon Wayans Jr.) and Nick Miller (Jake Johnson) are the lead roles in Let's Be Cops, which made for a ton of laughs. The two have great chemistry, and I loved seeing them working together on another project. I'll be honest, I was waiting for Jess/Zooey Deschanel to show up/make a cameo (which never happened).

If you're assuming that Let's Be Cops will be the same thing as 21/22 Jump Street, then you're in for a treat! Let's Be Cops was a refreshing take on the buddy cop movie trend. As shown in the trailer, Ryan (Jake) and Justin (Damon) are roommates/best friends that are a bit lost in life. While wearing cop uniforms to a costume party, they realize that everyone takes them seriously as real life cops. They continue to pretend to be cops, and find themselves in some seriously funny and scary situations. There were moments when the entire theater burst into laughter, but there were also moments when I was on the edge of my seat. I think that this is a great date night movie, as it's a comedy that also has bits of romance, action, and suspense.

Let's Be Cops Poster

Here's how IMDB describes Let's Be Cops:

"Two struggling pals dress as police officers for a costume party and become neighborhood sensations. But when these newly-minted "heroes" get tangled in a real life web of mobsters and dirty detectives, they must put their fake badges on the line."

If you're a hardcore New Girl fan, then this movie is probably already on your radar. If you've never watched New Girl, please go watch a few episodes, you'll love it! Let's Be Cops officially hits theaters August 13th 2014, and I definitely think that it's worth checking out!

  3. I tried watching new girl, it was too silly and melodramatic for me :S didn't feel realistic enough and the humor wasn't really for me
I have seen jake johnson in a movie called drinking buddy though, and I really enjoyed that one, I like how he isn't your traditional hollywood hunk :)
