Philosophy My Heart to Yours

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, a lot of companies are coming out with limited edition products for this holiday! Today I have Philosophy's My Heart to Yours Valentine's Day Set* ($29 CAD/$24 USD) to share with you! This gift set contains a lip gloss, shower gel, and body lotion in the same scent, all wrapped up in the cutest packaging!

Philosophy My Heart to Yours

"this year, treat yourself—or someone you love—to this gift (set) that’s straight from the heart. indulge in the sweet and creamy scent of vanilla citrus from head to toe. start every morning with a power shower designed to energize and invigorate, then follow it up with a luxurious lotion for soft, silky skin. and of course, add a dab of gloss every time you want to shine…includes shampoo, shower gel & bubble bath 4oz., body lotion 2 oz., and lip shine 0.4 oz.

philosophy: the sweetest gifts come straight from the heart. there are many thoughtful ways to show someone how much you love them: a big hug, a helping hand, a shoulder to lean on, a letter of gratitude, a compliment, and many x’s and o’s." - Philosophy

Philosophy My Heart to Yours

If your loved one is into beauty, or anything girly at all, I'm sure she would love and appreciate receiving this gift set for Valentine's Day. Philosophy's My Heart to Yours scent is described as "sweet citrus vanilla", but I personally don't think that that is an accurate description. In my opinion, this scent is fairly perfumy, while my boyfriend thought that it smelt like a strawberry pastry. I find that the shower gel has more of a citrus base to it, whereas the body lotion is a mix of floral, sweet, and powdery/clean scent.  This might just be one of those scents that smells different to everyone! I would have liked for this scent to be a little less perfumy, and more of a classic citrus-vanilla scent, but that's just personally preference!

Philosophy My Heart to Yours

As with all of Philosophy's Shower Gels, this one is also marketed as a multi-use shampoo, shower gel & bubble bath. I personally only ever use these as shower gel, but I would use it in the other ways if I needed to. The scent from the shower gel doesn't linger on my skin for too long, but the scent from the body lotion does last for a few hours. Philosophy's My Heart to Yours lip gloss gives my lips a sheer pink tint and a glossy look. This is a great gloss to wear on its own for a sheer look, or to layer over other pink lipsticks.

Philosophy My Heart to Yours

You can also purchase Philosophy's My Heart to Yours Body Lotion* in a 210ml tube for $21 CAD/$17 USD. This is a limited edition scent, so if you like it you should stock up now!

Are you a fan of Valentine's Day? My boyfriend and I usually just do something super chill, like cook a meal together and watch a rom-com. Would you like to receive Philosophy's My Heart to Yours this Valentine's Day?  :)

Nicole by OPI Oil to Go

Nicole by OPI has released a few new treatments to their brand for 2014, and I've been testing out their new Oil to Go* ($10.99 CAD/7.5ml). I'm a huge fan of cuticle oil, and I make sure to apply it once a day, if not more often.

"Packaged in a leak-proof tube, Oil to Go keeps cuticles soft and smooth on the go. “I recommend using Oil to Go daily for healthy nails,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, Nicole by OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director." - Nicole by OPI

Nicole by OPI's Oil to Go comes packaged in a simple white and pink tube with a brush applicator. I really love when cuticle oils are packaged like this, since they won't leak in your purse, making them super travel-friendly. Just squeeze the tube, and the oil goes onto the brush. The oil itself has an interesting scent to it, which I can only describe as cherry-banana? I can't quite place my finger on the scent, and it's not one that I either love or hate. This cuticle oil absorbs into my skin really quickly, and I feel as though it really does help to hydrate my cuticles. I like to apply this throughout the day whenever my hands are feeling dry, and before bed.

If you want a leak-proof cuticle oil that actually works, I would highly recommend checking out Nicole by OPI's Oil to Go! The packaging makes application super easy, and when things are easy there's a better chance that I'll actually do it. Do you apply a cuticle cream/oil daily? What are your favourite formulas? :)

Revlon Powder Blush - Racy Rose

This month, Revlon has released a new line of powder blushes that includes 8 beautiful shades. I'm a huge blush addict, and I have to admit that I typically prefer high-end formulas. However, I was excited to give Revlon's version a try, and today I have Revlon's Powder Blush in Racy Rose* ($11.95 CAD/0.17 oz) to share with you! Read on to see how I got on with this blush...

"Soft, natural flush of colour.
Ultra- soft, silky powder blush adds a natural flush of colour to your cheeks. Provides buildable colour with a soft satin finish" - Revlon

Revlon's Powder Blushes come packaged in a square plastic container that also includes a small travel brush. I don't typically use brushes that come with makeup, but this one isn't too bad. The blush itself is incredibly smooth and silky, and I find that it glides onto my cheeks effortlessly. I've been using Real Techniques' Blush Brush to apply Racy Rose, and that combo works perfectly. Racy Rose actually looks a lot like a coral shade to me, so the name isn't too fitting. There is another shade in the range called Classy Coral, but I haven't tried it out.

Racy Rose is a beautiful coral blush with a healthy sheen to it. There isn't any noticeable shimmer or glitter in the formula, but the sheen brings some life to the blush. I find that this shade works really nicely with my skin tone, but I also think that it would look great on a tan. This blush is a bit sheer, so I did use two layers of Racy Rose to get the pigmentation that I like. This formula lasted about 7 hours on my cheeks before it started to fade. For a drugstore blush, I'm really quite impressed!

I was really surprised by how silky this blush felt - I really like the formula! This isn't the longest wearing blush that I've tried, but I really can't complain about 7 hours. Racy Rose has a beautiful sheen to it, and if you like a more natural look then you can definitely skip the highlighter with this one. Have you tried any of Revlon's new powder blushes? Which of the 8 shades is your favourite? :)

Lush Imperialis

When most people think of Lush, I assume that they immediately think about bath bombs, bubble bars & soaps. However, Lush has some amazing skin care offerings, and I've been using their products for years. I've recently started using Lush's Imperialis* ($24.95/45g), which is a facial moisturizer suitable for all skin types, day and night.

Lush Imperialis

"If you’re not sure which moisturizer is for you, we recommend starting here. Imperialis is a finely crafted moisturizer that works with most skin types to ease and soothe irritations. Made with lavender infusion to balance the skin's sebum production, the lavender encourages dry skin to produce more natural oils and discourages oily skin from overdoing it. Orange blossom water brightens up dull looking areas and leaves you smelling gorgeous all day long." - Lush

Lush Imperialis

Lush's Imperialis comes in one of their well known little black tubs. This cream is light pink in colour, and has a medium consistency. I find the scent to be a mix of herbal and lavender, and while it doesn't bother me, it might bother someone with scent sensitivity or very sensitive skin. I don't have major issues with my skin being too dry or too oily, so I really just turn to a facial moisturizer to hydrate my skin and keep it in balance. Lush's Imperialis feels quite luxurious on my skin, yet it sinks in very quickly. I only need to use a small amount of Imperialis, as a little goes a long way. The scent doesn't linger on my face after I've rubbed in the cream, and my skin stays hydrated all day long. I've been using this moisturizer in the mornings only, but once I'm finished my tub of Origins' Night-a-Mins, I'll start applying this twice daily.

Lush Imperialis

Lush Imperialis

Lush claims that Imperialis is perfect for people with either dry or oily skin, and I think that this is true! This moisturizer keeps my skin in balance, and gives great hydration without making me look oily. Of course, you could always ask for a sample of Lush's Imperialis (or any of their skin care items) the next time you're in a store. Have you tried Lush's Imperialis, or any of their other moisturizers before? :)

Revlon Nail Enamel - Elusive

It's been a while since I've used a Revlon nail polish, but I used to use them all the time a few years ago! Today I have Revlon's Nail Enamel in Elusive* ($5.95 CDN) to share with you, which is one of their new shades. This nail polish is perfect for this time of year, as the black base makes it a bit mysterious and elusive...

Revlon Nail Enamel in Elusive

Revlon's Nail Enamels come packaged in a glass bottle with a black plastic lid, containing 0.5 oz of product. This bottle brings back memories of all of my old Revlon polishes, and all of the shades that were in my mom's collection. The brush for this range of polishes is fairly thin, which makes application easy, but you might have to use a few more strokes to cover each nail. I also noticed that this brush picks up a ton of product, so definitely be sure to swipe the brush against the bottle to remove all of the excess product.

Revlon Nail Enamel in Elusive

The shade Elusive is comprised of a matte black base and bright blue/teal glitter pieces of varying sizes. I surprisingly don't have anything like this in my collection! I found that I had to use 3 coats of this polish, as the third coat really deepens the colour. Two coats would have been fine in a rush, but I did find the polish to lack a bit of depth with just two coats. I also made sure to add a top coat to really enhance the shine factor of this polish. Without a top coat, Elusive will dry to a matte-satin finish, but I personally prefer a shiny finish for most polishes. From afar, Elusive looks like a simple black/navy polish, but it looks absolutely gorgeous up close. I really love how the glitter in this polish is visible, but it isn't too overpowering.

Revlon Nail Enamel in Elusive swatch

Are you a fan of Revlon's Nail Enamels? Have you tried out the shade Elusive? If you love glitter polishes, you need to check out this shade. What polish are you currently rocking? :)

Shu Uemura Essence Absolue Nourishing Oil-In-Cream

I'm a huge fan of hair oils, and I apply one to my hair after each shampoo. I've been trying out Shu Uemura's Essence Absolue Nourishing Oil-In-Cream* ($69 CAD/150ml), which combines the benefits of oils and creams. This product contains Camellia Oil, which is something that I've never tried before! My hair is quite dry, and I used to use a lot of heat on my hair. Now I really try to use as little heat as possible, and my hair has been doing a lot better!

"Camellia oil was traditionally used by geishas to soften, smooth and enhance the beauty of their hair. Concentrated with essential lipids, camellia oil deeply nourishes, adds moisture and helps maintain the lipid balances of the hair fiber." - Shu Uemura

Shu Uemura's Essence Absolue Nourishing Oil-In-Cream comes packaged in a sleek gold bottle that looks very luxe. This cream has a nice salon scent to it that is fairly subtle and doesn't linger in my hair. I take a pea sized amount of this cream and apply to damp hair. I have tried this out as my only styling product, and I really loved the results! I've also used this in conjunction with other styling products like mousse, and I love how it works that way as well. This cream has a medium consistency, and it melts into my hair really easily, without feeling sticky, tacky, or weighing down my hair. I find that Shu Uemura's Essence Absolue Nourishing Oil-In-Cream helps to soften and hydrate my thick hair, and I also notice that my waves are a bit more defined. This doesn't leave my hair looking greasy at all, so don't worry about that! If you have very thin or short hair, just adjust the amount of cream that you use.

If you're looking for a new luxurious addition to your hair care routine, I would highly recommend checking out Shu Uemura's Essence Absolue Nourishing Oil-In-Cream. If you don't like using traditional hair oils, you might like the texture of this cream a bit better. This 150ml tube will last me ages, as I only use a tiny amount each time! Have you tried any hair care products from Shu Uemura? I would love to know what you love and recommend! :)

Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm - Showy

Revlon recently came out with a new line of matte and lacquer (shiny) balms that come in crayon-format. I was already a fan of their Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains, so I was curious about these two new formulas. Today I have Revlon's ColorBurst Matte Balm in Showy* ($9.95 CAD) to share with you! I don't generally reach for matte lip products, since I find that they can be very drying. However, I was very pleasantly surprised by this new formula!

"Velvety Matte Look. Moisture Rich Balm. A Matte finish that’s beyond plush. Balm that’s beyond comforting. Our Triple Butter Complex of Shea, Coconut and Mango butters nourishes lips. In 10 collectible, craveable colours." - Revlon

Revlon's ColorBurst Matte Balms come packaged in colour-coordinating tubes, which makes finding the right colour in your purse super easy! The product easily twists up and down, and the product comes with a slightly pointed tip. This formula has a very slight minty scent to it, which I find a lot less noticeable than the mintiness of Revlon's Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains. The shade Showy is a beautiful bright pink that will definitely get you noticed. Even though this shade is quite bright, I still felt comfortable wearing it, and I didn't think that it was too neon or over the top. To my surprise, my lips have actually been quite good this Winter, so I can't comment on how this shade looks on dry or cracked lips.

Even though this product goes on matte, it has a great hydrating quality to it. I find that this lip stick moisturizes my lips for about 2 hours before I have to apply a balm, which is fairly typical for my lips. Even when the balm wears off, my lips aren't left feeling dry and thirsty. The colour itself lasts for a lot longer - about 6 hours. This product lightly stains my lips, and the colour does last throughout light eating and drinking.

I think that the shade Showy is going to be the perfect colour this Spring and Summer! I normally don't go for super bright pinks like this one, but I find that the blue undertones in Showy worked really well on my pale skin. I'm really impressed with how Revlon managed to combine matte and moisture into one product, I'm definitely a fan! Have you tried any of Revlon's ColorBurst Matte Balms yet? There are 10 shades in the range, and I have my eyes on Elusive, Complex, and Striking. What are your favourite shades? :)

Montagne Jeunesse Acai Body Smoothie

I'm a huge fan body butters and thick body lotions, especially in the drier Winter months. I've been trying out Montagne Jeunesse's Acai Body Smoothie* ($9.99 CAD/200 ml), which has a great fruity scent! This body smoothie has a very unique texture - imagine if jell-o and a souffle had a baby! This product is unlike anything that I've used before, so read on to see my full thoughts!

"Bye bye dryness, hello velvety soft skin! Smear this super juicy smoothie over dry bits to replenish essential moisture. A creamy combination of pulped Acai Berries from the depths of the Amazon, Pomegranate & Cranberries all bursting with Antioxidants – it’s pulped protection at its best!

Montagne Jeunesse use a completely Unique Liquid Crystal System derived from Olive Oil, which is responsible for the easy skin penetration, with a soft, silky smooth after feel. This system works more effectively than traditional body butters to lower the trans-epidermal water loss thereby providing retention of skin moisture and leaving the skin super hydrated." - Farley Co.

Montagne Jeunesse's Acai Body Smoothie comes packaged in a plastic tub, very similar to The Body Shop's Body Butters. This product is a bright pink/purple colour, and the formula is very thick and dense. The formula almost feels like a mousse, and I'll take a chunk of product, and rub it into my skin. This body smoothie is incredibly hydrating without leaving my skin feeling greasy. I do find that the scent lingers for a very long time, so make sure that you like the scent! I can apply this cream at night, and the scent is still subtly on my skin the next morning. I think anyone that likes very fruity scents would really enjoy this one.

Have you tried any of Montagne Jeunesse's body care products? If you like thick body lotions and fruity scents, definitely give this one a try. The formula isn't anything that I've tried before, but I do really like it! What are your favourite body butter formulas/scents? :)

EcoTools Deluxe Fan Brush

Believe it or not, I've never used a fan brush before. That is, until I started using EcoTools' Deluxe Fan Brush* ($8.99 CAD) recently. I don't know where I've been and why I haven't discovered the joys of a fan brush, but now I'm hooked!

"This multi-functional brush sets face makeup and adds definition by angling the brush to contour your cheekbone. The large, fanned head is also great for use with illuminating powders for an airbrushed finish. Our brush features soft, cruelty-free bristles, recycled aluminum ferrules, sleek bamboo handles and our new, reusable eco pouch that features snap closure and is now made with natural materials." - Farley Co.

I've mostly been using EcoTools' Deluxe Fan Brush for contouring and highlighting. I like to use this brush in conjunction with NARS' Laguna bronzer to contour my cheekbones. This brush picks up the perfect amount of product and the shape of the brush deposits the bronzer in the right spot. This Deluxe Fan Brush allows you to really carve out the hollows of your cheeks quite easily. I've also been using this brush to apply highlighter to my cheekbones, which this brush is perfect for! This brush picks up the perfect amount of product so that you don't end up looking like a disco ball. The bristles on EcoTools' Deluxe Fan Brush are soft, and they are fairly dense, considering that it is a fan brush. I love this, since it makes the brush a bit more multi-purpose.

I highly recommend checking out EcoTools' brushes, as they're great quality at amazing prices! As with all of EcoTools' brushes, this Deluxe Fan Brush is cruelty free. Do you regularly use a fan brush? If so, what do you love using this brush shape for? I would love to know if there are any other ways that I can be using this brush! :)

Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs - Truffle Tease

Maybelline has recently released their new Color Sensational The Buffs line, which includes 10 nude lipsticks for every skin tone! I have the shade Truffle Tease* ($9.99 CAD/4.2g) to share with you today. This collection is similar to Maybelline's Vivids, which were a huge success. I love that Maybelline came out with a range of nudes, as everyone has a need to a basic nude lipstick in their collection!

Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs in Truffle Tease

Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs in Truffle Tease

Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs in Truffle Tease

Maybelline's Truffle Tease has really great pigmentation, and I only need to go over my lips once with the bullet to cover up my lips' natural colouring. Truffle Tease is a nude shade with slightly orange undertones. This shade is quite warm, and I find it very easy to wear on my pale complexion. The Color Sensational formula feels very light on my lips, but they still hydrate my lips for about 2 hours. The colour itself lasts for about 4-5 hours, but I do need to reapply after heavy eating or drinking. I really like the curved angle of the bullet which hugs my lips and makes for easy application. Truffle Tease is somewhere in the middle of the shade range for The Buffs, but there are very pale shades (Bare All), and quite dark shades (Espresso Exposed). There's sure to be something for everyone, as long as you enjoy a nude lip! Then again, Espresso Exposed on my pale skin would make for quite a vampy lip.

Have you picked up any of Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs? What do you think about the shade Truffle Tease?  I'm a big fan of this shade, and I'm wanting to try out more shades from this new range! In particular, I'm interested in Touchable Taupe, Untainted Spice, and Blushing Beige. What are your favourites shades from The Buffs? :)

Nicole by OPI Teal Me Something New

Nicole by OPI has released 15 new polishes for 2014, and today I have the shade Teal Me Something New* ($10.99 CAD) to share with you! This polish is gorgeous, and it's such a nice change of pace from the typical Winter colours that I've been wearing. I saw a picture today saying that there's 50 days til Spring - 50 days!? Oh man, that still seems like a lot of time, but we can do it! :)

*Note - this shade did not want to photograph properly! In my photos, this polish looks a bit brighter, and a bit more blue than it does in real life!*

"Nicole by OPI announces 15 new nail lacquers for 2014, featuring a range of shades from dark blue and cool mint to bright sorbet hues, as well as metallic shimmers and creamy nudes. These highly-pigmented lacquers offer nail fans a unique, varied colour palette ideal for coordinating with the latest fashion trends.

“Maintaining manicures is an important goal to have on the New Year’s resolution list! Perfectly painted nails are one of the best accessories any fashionista can have,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, Nicole by OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “It’s easy to add this finishing touch to any look with so many stylish shimmers and vivid tones. With a wide array of options, wearers can truly express their personality through these shades, whether they change up hues often or mix and match to create fun nail designs.” - Nicole by OPI

Nicole by OPI's Teal Me Something New is a beautiful bright teal, with a perfect creamy formula. I used two coats of this polish to get a wonderfully opaque look, without any bald spots and streaks. Another bonus of a creme formula like this one? - super easy to remove!! I wear glitter polishes a lot, so it's always a nice change of pace to just wear a creme formula. Nicole by OPI's Teal Me Something New is going into their permanent collection, so this shade isn't a limited release. This polish dries to a fairly shiny finish (although I did follow up with a top coat to prolong the wear time).

If you're wanting to pick up a new polish to rid you of the Winter blues, I highly recommend checking out Nicole by OPI's Teal Me Something New. I really love the smooth, creamy formula of this polish, and the colour is just beautiful. Have you checked out any of Nicole by OPI's new releases for 2014?

Lush Eau Roma Water

I've been a fan of Lush's Tea Tree Water (reviewed here), but I decided to switch to one of Lush's more hydrating toners waters this winter, which is their Eau Roma Water* ($21.95/250ml). I love the ease and convenience of a toner in a spray bottle, and this toner hasn't disappointed!

"Dry, sensitive or mature needs a gentle touch. In a world of “technology” loaded cosmetics, using a toner with only two active ingredients may seem unusual. But at LUSH, we believe in using effective ingredients instead of filler. Our most moisturizing toner, Eau Roma relies on the King and Queen of the essential oils world, rose and lavender. Both oils have been used for thousands of years to treat dryness, redness or irritation. Rose is particularly nourishing and cooling, while lavender helps your skin produce the right amount sebum (oil) to keep it suppler. Simplicity at its best." - Lush

Lush Eau Roma Water

Lush's Eau Roma Water contains lavender and rose water, which are very soothing to the skin. I like to spray on Lush's Eau Roma Water after cleansing my face every night. This toner is so calming and cooling on my skin, and it sinks in very quickly. You can either spritz this directly on your skin, which is what I do, or you can spray it onto a cotton pad and use it as you would a traditional toner. This has been the first Winter that my skin hasn't completely freaked out, and I think that Lush's Eau Roma Water has played an important part in that. If you have dry or mature skin, I really think that you would love this toner.

I think that I'll stick with Lush's Eau Roma Water in the colder months, and then return to Tea Tree Water in the warmer months. Have you tried any of Lush's toners? Which formula is your favourite? :)

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

I've been using my Sigma F80 Flat Top Kabuki to apply liquid foundation for the past year, but lately I've been trying out Real Techniques' Expert Face Brush*($9.99 CAD) for the same purpose. I've heard a ton of rave reviews for this brush, so I couldn't wait to try it out! I love that all of Real Techniques' brushes are cruelty free, yet the bristles are still very soft.

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

"Designed with pro makeup artist Samantha Chapman, Real Techniques brushes combine high-tech materials with innovative design to make creating a pixel-perfect look easier than ever.

Use Real Techniques ultra firm and broad Expert Brush for application and blending of cream or liquid foundation:
  • look pixel-perfect even in harsh light
  • ultra-plush, synthetic taklon bristles are hand-cut and
  • 100% cruelty-free
  • self-standing for easy storage
  • extended aluminum handle is light and easy to use" - Farley Co.
Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

Real Techniques' Expert Face Brush is perfect for applying cream or liquid foundations. The bristles are fairly dense, and they're about an inch in length. This brush has a semi-domed shape to it. The synthetic bristles are very soft, and this brush feels great on my skin. I've been using this Expert Face Brush to apply Estee Lauder's Double Wear foundation, and it works perfectly for that purpose. This brush gives a beautiful, even application with no streaky marks. The shape of this brush really allows you to buff in the foundation for a flawless finish. I do find that this brush eats up some of my foundation though, so I do find myself needing to use just a bit more product to get the job done. This brush washes very easily, and I haven't had any bristles fall out so far.

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

I highly recommend checking out Real Techniques' Expert Face Brush if you regularly wear cream or liquid foundation. This brush is priced perfectly, and I love that the entire line is cruelty free. Have you tried any brushes from the Real Techniques line? Which ones are your favourite? :)
