Take it away Kimberly...

The maxi dress is one of the most versatile dress cuts and that means plenty of maxi dresses are good picks for the club or other glitzy events. However, it can be hard to make a maxi dress work in an
evening environment unless you put it together just right. So how do you make a maxi dress work for the club? Here’s our introduction.

How to Wear a Maxi Dress to the Club

What exactly are maxi dresses?
The first thing to know about sexy maxi dresses is that you should expect slightly different look, and experience, from what you would get wearing a normal maxi dress. Maxi dresses are a large family of dresses that are cut to be form-fitting at the top and then flow over the body to be very loose below the waist. Most of the time, however, a maxi dress conjures an image of a very casual sun dress to be worn at the beach. These dresses are a girl’s best friend because they are easy to wear, comfortable, and work with any body type—but they are also very casual and limited by the season. For a long club maxi dress that you can wear any time of year, you should expect a different fit as well as a sexy cut that is more appropriate for cocktail parties, dance clubs and romantic occasions than for strolling at the beach. Accordingly, expect sexy maxi dresses to be more fitted at the top and to show off a little more skin, often with cutouts.

Accessories
The key to rocking a sexy maxi dress like this is not only to focus on a good fit, though that is essential, but also to make sure your maxi dress isn't too “summer-y” or doesn't give off a daytime vibe. You can avoid this by choosing darker colors like black or navy blue as well as pairing it with some chunky gold or silver jewelry. Avoid colorful accessories to transform your long maxi dress into a true nightclub outfit. Add a chic clutch to finish off your look.

Footwear
Your choice of footwear also matters. With a sexy maxi dress, most of the time you will be wearing heels/pumps and these will help to up the sexy level of the whole outfit. If you need flats in order to make dancing easier, we recommend gladiator sandals depending on the season.

  1. He-hee! I love your question on the sexiest maxi I ever owned! Because we are LIGHT years way in age, I don't think I ever thought of a maxi I owned as sexy (well maybe one in the late 40s/early 50s and another one I had in the 70s but heh those were associated with dancing and it really was the dancing, not the dress that made things sexy). I've seen maxis come and go just about every decade I've been here (since the late 20s which I don't remember but from photos). I was not really old enough to take use of the WAAAY sexy maxis worn by women in the 30s (only we didn't call them Maxis then - that term I only heard first in the early 60s when the first maxi coats came into fashion (about 1964 or 5). The 40s things were short for the first half because fabric was hard to come by. But post War back flooded longer dresses and suits before too long to integrate into the short ones. Today a maxi to me is a caftan or a formal gown I HAVE to put on to wear to something. I still dance but I stick to anything but a maxi get up and 'cut a rug' in!

    1. Haha, I always love your stories! Maxi dresses can be tricky to dance in, especially if they have a tighter fit, but I just love the way they look!
