Travel Diaries Vienna: Das Tyrol Small Luxury Hotel

Today I'm back with another Travel Diaries post! One of the highlights of our European vacation was definitely our stunning hotel in Vienna. We stayed at the Das Tyrol Small Luxury Hotel, and I think that anyone planning a trip to Vienna should definitely check out this unique hotel. This property is right on Mariahilfer Straße, in the MuseumsQuartier, i.e. the center of the city. We were actually able to walk directly to our hotel from the train coming in from Budapest!

The staff at the Das Tyrol Small Luxury Hotel was incredible - everyone was incredibly helpful and friendly! This is a smaller hotel, and it was a nice change from the typical chain hotels that we were used to. This is an art hotel, and each floor has a different art theme. Our floor had Donald Duck themed paintings, but inside our room we found more abstract art. The orange and teal colour scheme was refreshing and unique. Every day we returned to find chocolates on our pillows, which was definitely a nice touch. Our room had a balcony that looked out onto Mariahilfer Straße, and it was so, so nice to be able to step outside and take in the city first thing in the morning.

The location of the Das Tyrol was beyond perfect - you're right on Mariahilfer Straße, in the middle of a huge shopping district. You're minutes away from public transportation, which we relied on quite heavily. There were cafes, museums, boutiques, and incredible sights within minutes of this hotel. You're in the center of the city! If you haven't been to Vienna before, then this is the perfect location to let you get a feel for the city.

The rooms at the Das Tyrol do come with complimentary wireless internet, but we did find that the connection was extremely slow. It was alright for a quick Google search or to post an Instagram picture of our hotel, but we weren't able stream videos, etc.

The bathroom at the Das Tyrol was fairly large, and came equipped with a deep tub and a towel warmer! There is a little plaque above the sink that says that the Viennese tap water is a very famous natural drinking water that comes fresh from the spring of a mountain! The shower actually included a retractable clothesline, which I thought was just genius. Since we were travelling for two weeks, it was nice to be able to hand wash some of our items and hang them up over night.

My absolute favourite feature of the Das Tyrol was the Wellness Centre. I was told about this upon check-in, and I immediately made a booking. Basically, in the basement of this hotel there is a private relaxation retreat. Simply book a time (they come in hour increments), and the space is all yours! The Wellness Centre offers two comfy chairs equipped with reading lights, a light therapy shower, a saltwater aquarium, a Finnish sauna, and a steam bath. I made sure to visit the Wellness Centre every night that we were at the Das Tyrol, because why not?! The light therapy shower was incredible - you were able to control every aspect of the shower - the lights, the water pressure, water angles, and of course the water temperature. This was hands down the best shower I've ever experienced. There's a lot to do and see in Vienna, you're sure to be exhausted at the end of the day. What better way to relax than spending an hour at the Wellness Centre?! Tourists will absolutely love feature of the hotel!

If you're visiting Vienna and you want to try something other than the big chain hotels, then I think that you would absolutely love your time at the Das Tyrol. The rooms are approximately €160 per night, and you definitely get what you pay for. The staff is beyond accommodating, the rooms are spacious, and the Wellness Centre is just the cherry on top!

Have you been to Vienna before? Would you consider staying in a small luxury hotel?

    1. Haha it does look like that! But it's actually one king bed, just the way they folded the duvets made it look like two separate beds!

  2. I love the idea of a small, more personal hotel! The big chains are great, but sometimes I feel like I'm just another number to them...
