I love the look of a matte lipstick, but honestly, it's rare that I wear a matte lipstick without quickly topping it off with a gloss of balm. Until now, matte lippies have always been super drying, which is a big no-no for this lip balm addict. So, I was a bit skeptical when Avon's new Perfectly Matte Lipsticks* ($10) landed on my desk. However, I was instantly won over by the smooth and creamy formula! Today I have 5 shades of this beautiful new matte formula to share with you!
Hot Plum is a beautiful bright purple that will definitely get you noticed. While this is such a fun colour, I still feel totally comfortable wearing it out of the house (it's not that crazy!). Pigmentation is good, but not super opaque.
Ravishing Rose is a pinky red that swatches beautifully, but on my lips it looked a bit patchy, even with multiple layers.
Coral Fever is a bright coral that's making me long for Spring and Summer days! Again, application was a little bit patchy, but still better than Ravishing Rose.
Ideal Lilac might just be my favourite shade from the bunch! This is a bright lilac lippie with a truly matte finish, and I absolutely love it! Pigmentation was perfect - opaque, and no issues with cracking, caking, etc.
Perfectly Nude was everything but perfectly nude for me. This matte nude lipstick completely washed me out, giving me that "concealer lips" look that I'm just not into. This colour applied fairly patchy and uneven, but the formula was still very creamy and hydrating.
Avon's Perfectly Matte Lipsticks have a surprisingly creamy and hydrating formula for a matte finish! The pigmentation seemed to vary slightly among the five shades that I tried. My favourites were Hot Plum and Ideal Lilac, but with some work and maybe a lip brush, you could definitely make all five shades work.
My only complaint with this formula is that it transfers like crazy. You'll wind up with lipstick on your straws, food, significant other, scarf, etc. Other than that, this formula is pretty great, and it's the only truly wearable matte lipstick that I've ever tried! For anyone with dry lips of a lip balm addiction like myself, I think you'll be quite surprised by this new lip line from Avon!
