Every Spring we see an influx of pretty pastel polishes, and this year's SoftShades Collection from OPI has a pastel theme! I definitely appreciate this change from the traditional super sheer ballet-type shades that we've seen year after year. Today I'm swatching up all 6 of the new SoftShades polishes, keep reading to see my full review!
One Chic Chick is a pale pastel yellow polish with a fairly thin and streaky formula. I used 4 coats for the swatch below, and the coverage was still a bit patchy.
It's in the Cloud is a creamy white, but again the pigmentation was just not there. I used four thin coats, and I was disappointed that even after that many coats, this white was still patchy. I wouldn't recommend this white for nail art as it's quite hard to work with.
Stop I'm Blushing! is a soft baby pink with peach undertones. The formula for this polish was a bit better, as I was able to get fairly good coverage with 3 coats
I Am What I Amethyst is a pale lilac polish with a decent formula. I used three thin coats, and I was happy with the pigmentation. However, this shade definitely isn't a true amethyst colour as the name would suggest!
This Cost Me a Mint is a pale minty green colour, which normally would really excite me. However, this formula was super thin and sheer, and quite hard to work with. I experienced a lot of pooling around my cuticles, so you'll have to be extra patient and careful while using this polish.
It's a Boy! is a pale robin's egg blue with the best formulation from this collection. Still, I did use three thin coats, but the end result was fully opaque and streak free! This is such a pretty polish for Spring and Summer!
Pastel polishes can be a bit tricky to work with, and this collection was unfortunately no exception. I've never been a huge fan of OPI's SoftShades Collections, mainly because I'm not one for sheer polishes. However, I know that many people exclusively wear sheer polishes, so this collection will be hit or miss depending on those preferences.
What are your thoughts on this years' SoftShades Collection?
