One of my New Years Resolutions for 2017 was to start reading again, and I got off to a great start in January! I'd love to share all of the books that I've read each month with you, and let you know whether or not I think that you should give them a read as well.
The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein
My mother in law lent me this book over the holidays, and I absolutely loved it! Warning: if you're an animal lover then you might find this book a little emotional. Essentially, this book is written from a dog's point of view, and gives really interesting insight into what our pets might be thinking throughout all of our lives milestones.
A Stolen Life by Jaycee Dugard
I watched Captive for 18 Years: The Jaycee Lee Story on Netflix, and then realized that I've had A Stolen Life sitting on my bookshelf, unread for a few years! I immediately delved into the memoir, and was hooked until the very end. Jaycee was kidnapped as a child, and was held captive for 18 years. This memoir goes into great detail describing her years of abuse, and definitely isn't for the faint of heart.
The Nest by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney
This book has been on all of the best books lately, so of course I couldn't wait to read it! I will say that this book was a bit hard to follow at first, since there are so many characters! I actually ended up making a list of all of the characters and sticking it on the inside front cover so I could keep all of the different story lines straight. But, I do think that this book is still worth a read, especially if you love family drama and gossip!
Coming Clean by Kimberley Rae Miller
My husband and I love watching Hoarders, so when I came across this memoir about a girl that grew up with parents who were hoarders, I knew that I needed to read it. If you want a more realistic and raw look at hoarding, then I'd definitely recommend giving this a read.
I really enjoyed all four books that I read in January, and I'm hoping that I keep up the same momentum and have the same luck for February! If you have any book suggestions please leave them for me in a comment below.
